IT’S ELEMENTARY

Cubase Elements Collage

Steinberg is really putting Cubase out there and within reach of a much wider user-base with the new Cubase Elements priced at EURO$99.00 (around AUS$140.00) excluding VAT. Cut-down introductory versions of DAW software usually aren’t taken too seriously, but Elements is no “lite” slouch with 48 audio and 64 MIDI tracks available for 32 bit/192kHz recording. It slips into the Cubase family under Artist – the link below will take you to a full comparison chart – so likewise Elements is missing a lot of the pro features you’ll find in the premium Cubase 7 software, many of which an everyday user wouldn’t appreciate anyway. The most significant limitation of Elements is the inclusion of just three VST instruments, HALion Sonic SE, Groove Agent and Prologue and that time-stretching/pitch-shifting facilities are restricted to playback only. However you still get 44 effects plug-ins including VST Amp Rack, which is all that guitar-heads should ever need. Upgrades to higher versions are always available, but Elements will keep users busy enough for quite some time.
