Reason Revives ReCycle
Iconic sampler re-released free for everyone.
The sample tool that refuses to die
Released in 1994, this iconic sample tool used to go hand in hand with producing grassroots electronic genres of the 90’s. Re-released in 2025, ReCycle is now free-to-use. Experience the hands-on workflow of manually cutting, stretching and bending your samples in the same way your favourite producers of the late 90’s did.
Before giving our beloved ReCycle a facelift…
…we asked ourselves “does ReCycle have a place in today’s musical landscape?”. We think it does. And even if it didn’t, ReCycle just refuses to die. After all these years, many people swear by ReCycle as their go-to sample tool and given the cultural time capsule that it is today we want new generations to be able to experience what the workflow was like 30 years ago.
So, we made it free to use. Maybe you’ll fall in love with its old-school workflow. Maybe you’ll use it once, smile, and go back to your usual sample tool. Either way, we’re giving everyone a chance to experience a piece of software that helped shape modern sample editing into what we’ve come to know today.
The contest that refuses to die
In honor of ReCycle, we’re also recycling a well-known concept – the beat challenge. We call it ‘ReCycling the Beat’. You probably know the rules. We drop a sample – you flip it. Chop it, stretch it, pitch it, crush it, turn it into a beautiful masterpiece or an unrecognizable mess. Bonus points if you use ReCycle.
The contest will be hosted by Don Cannon (VP of A&R at Def Jam Recordings). Click below to download ReCycle and enter ‘ReCycling the Beat’.
