Top 5: Restricted

With Rhys Sfyrios’ single ‘Big Jet Plane’ copping 52 million streams, the young Australian producer channels techno, bassline, and hard dance, and has shared stages with Timmy Trumpet, Martin Garrix, Ben Nicky, and Laidback Luke. He’s his top five mixing must-haves.

Dada Life ‘Endless Smile’

I use this plugin in almost every single track. It’s a super simple plugin but it’s really useful for creating big build ups, by washing them out and creating suspense. This plugin alone can completely change the way a build sounds.

Xfer Records ‘Serum’

Serum is easily my favourite sound design VST/Plugin. The layout is great and easy to navigate on a basic level, and I’ve found myself being able to transfer what I’ve learnt in Serum and apply that knowledge into other VSTs when manipulating the sounds. Also there are so many good techno based preset packs that you can buy and the sounds are insane.

Image-Line ‘FL Studio’

I’ve been using FL Studio for about 8 years and the reason I love it is because you get so much creative freedom. You can always do certain action/command so many different ways, allowing you to work in a way that you find is most suited to you. However because you have so much freedom in the way you work, this can affect workflow as it’s very easy to have an unorganised/ messy project, which always takes longer to navigate through. I’ve also found that the piano roll on FL is by far the best of any DAW.

Neumann ‘KH 310’

I did a writing camp in Germany and had the opportunity to use these. They were highly responsive and had a real clean sound. A lot of my music is low end heavy, and these speakers have a really balanced low end which sounded great when mixing tracks down on them.

Secret Lab ‘TITAN Evo’

It may not be audio focussed but my Secret Lab chair is easily one of my favourite things in my studio. I’ve tried multiple different brands over the years and this is easily the best chair that I’ve used. It maybe something people over look, but because I spend every day working in my studio, having a chair that has good comfort and back support is super important to me.
