Sound Devices products have proved themselves trustworthy on the sets of La La Land, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Game of Thrones. So the company’s new MixPre Series is reason to get excited. The two products are high-quality audio recorders with integrated USB audio interfaces. Incorporating a USB interface opens the MixPre devices up to musicians, sound designers, videographers and podcasters. MixPre-3 is a five-track recorder with three inputs, whereas MixPre-6 has six inputs and eight recording tracks. Both feature new Class-A Kashmir microphone preamps handcrafted by Sound Devices with discrete components and an analogue limiter circuit. Besides MixPre’s great looks, the onboard touchscreen gives intuitive control and the compact units are built with a die-cast aluminium chassis for ruggedness and light weight. The MixPre recorders can be controlled with the Wingman iOS app.
