SAE 2016 SYNTHPOSIUM A SUCCESS

SAE Institute held its annual Synthposium on the 14th of November. Last year’s event was quite the success, so the 2016 Synthposium was expanded into an all-day avademic conference and evening session of workshops, vintage gear demos, and jamming.

It included synth experts from Australia, NZ, UK, US and Italy to probe how synthesizers convey ‘meaning through sonics.’ Folks like Warren Burt, David Haberfeld, James Gardner, Nino Auricchio, Paul Borg, Amedo D’Adamo, Michall Exarchos, Nevina Satta and Martin Koszollo presented papers examining the aspects of this topic.

The Synthposium also hosted Robin Fox, Melbourne sound artist and director of Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS), and Les Craythorn, tonmeister responsible for the restoration of the Victorian College of the Arts’ EMS Synthi 100. The pair both presented keynote addresses.

With sessions packed out all day and a full house for the evening jam session, the event was once again a commendable success.
