API ADDS VARIABLE OUTPUT TO 3124+ - AudioTechnology
The number 3124 is familiar to API enthusiasts, and the company has expanded on the lineup to add the new 3124V microphone preamp. It’s essentially the same unit as the 3124+ but provides two more features. Firstly, the 3124V has front panel Variable Output Level Control, something that’s been long requested by the pro audio community and is a valuable addition given today’s professional workflow. Secondly, the 3124V adds a switchable 3:1 output transformer selection, also found on the front panel. This allows you to alter how much gain comes from the different stages of the preamp’s circuitry — more transformer gain, more 2520 gain, or both. API’s director of engineering, Todd Humora says “You can choose exactly what you prefer and then use the Variable Output to make sure the level is where you want it.” All other design aspects of the 3124V remain identical to the 3124+, including the original circuitry, proprietary input and output transformers, 2520 op amps, and five-year warranty.
