TAKE FIVE FROM M-AUDIO

M-Audio has launched into 2014 with no less than five new monitor models ranging from a 3-inch driver model to an 8-inch type. With the AV30 and AV40 models – respectively 3-inch and 4-inch drivers with 10 and 20 watts power – labeled as “audio monitors for media creation”, plus connections specifically for PCs or tablets, M-Audio sees these monitors as high-end computer speakers rather than studio devices, but the larger BX Carbon designs (BX5, BX6 & BX8 Carbon) are true studio monitors with the latter two sporting 130 watt amplifiers. The BX Carbon series all have an Acoustic Space Control for tailoring reproduction to your environment and LED placement guides to help find the sweet spot. All five models will make a debut at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas happening right now, and will no doubt pop up at NAMM later in the month – which means it’s kind of early to ask for any Oz pricing and availability, but we’ll ask anyway. Plenty of technical info is at www.m-audio.com
