The SM MegaReaper Drumkit is a completely free-to-use multi-sampled acoustic drum sound library, that features 127 velocity layers and 4 round robin layers per articulation. That’s equals an incredible four samples per each note velocity! And its completely free!

The kit was created for Reaper by Scott McLean aka SMM (from Bedroom Producer’s Blog) then mapped by Burzukh, and is ready to use straight out of the box.

Scott really went the extra mile when recording the samples, for example the snare was sampled from a 1965 Ludwig 5″x14″ Jazz Festival Snare drum and recorded via four microphone channels (Top, Bottom, Stereo combining Left & Right overheads). Another example is the kick drum, which was recorded with a close front microphone with Left & Right overhead mics. You can read more about how he recorded the kit by checking out the User Manual here. Which you really should take the time to read if you plan on using the kit for yourself, it’s only just over 20 pages and an easy read.

If you don’t use Reaper, than you can load the individually titled WAV files into what ever sampling software you like to use. The full zip download is almost 2 GBs, but there’s also a Lite version that weighs in at 876 MBs. In addition, Todd Stillwell from Cockos Consolidated Forums has mapped a Kontakt instrument out of the stereo files that’s available for download here.

Scott is offering the SM MegaReaper Drumkit to the public on a Creative Commons Royalty-Free (“free to use”) for use in non-commercial and commercial productions license. No payment is required to use these samples in any production ever. It’s a generous gift from Scott, just in time for Christmas.

*Note: If you’re unable to download the kit immediately, be sure to add the link to your bookmarks and try again in a day or two.

  1. I already have the drumkit, but I can’t seem to find any way to download the manual. I really would like to have it, but I get prompted with the ‘Denied Access’ message from Google everytime. Can you help?
    Thanks

More for you
